July 4, 2008. Thunder Bay - staying at Lakehead University. Got here early in the day, about 35 km past beautiful Kakabeca Falls, where we stayed last night. Lots of time to update the blog and do laundry. We're spending this evening at a Blues Festival at Marina Park on Lake Superior. Great cycling through Ontario - considerate drivers, actual shoulders big enough for bicycles, good winds, rolling hills and beautiful lakes, trees, flowers and rock! ....BUT the black flies may drive me crazy!!!! - I have a bug screen that fits over my hat/head for when they get really bad; Marty wears his bug shirt; we all wear lots of clothes; Barb has a mosquito tent that we've sat under when we're playing games or eating and drinking at the picnic table but the black flies seem to come and go as they please. Got a great look at a HUGE bull moose on the way from Ignace to Upsula. He was standing in the grass on the left side of the highway, started running to stay ahead of us, crossed the road in front of us and ran down into the trees on the right. WOW! Also got a great look at a female and her calf on our right along the road. Cool! .......and about the food...we can hardly eat enough! We eat almost everything in sight and a half hour after we eat we're hungry again!...and sometimes our stomach growls because we didn't eat enough. As you can imagine, rest stops at restaurants along the way are greatly appreciated by all of us! People tell us that we "just missed" lousy rainy or stormy weather but it's been great for us. Warm and sunny today, again. I say we just bring the good weather with us. Greetings from all of us - Ray and Lydia, Barb and Marty.
